Bill Frisell Joins Lucinda Williams - Concert Review

The Brooklyn Rider Almanac

As a string quartet, one of our great loves is the act of commissioning and performing new music, and this is where the Brooklyn Rider Almanac got started. We've already commissioned fifteen new works from a diverse list of musicians, all of whom operate mostly outside of the classical music world. We asked each composer to name a personally influential artistic figure active within the last 50 years, and incorporate the spirit of that influence into the piece. Every time a composer came back to us with their source of inspiration, our excitement mounted. We started to realize that there was a much deeper story to tell...

Lost & Found: Bill's Gibson ES-175, The Fretboard Journal Documents His Story

Bill Frisell found his Gibson ES-175 which he sold about 30 years ago.Whether due to financial shortcomings, boredom, space constraints or restlessness, every guitarist has a tale of the “one that got away,” an instrument that we should have held onto, but, somehow, didn’t.

In the case of Bill Frisell, the one that got away was a custom 1968 Gibson ES-175. In his 20s, while the young musician was still discovering his singular voice, the Gibson was his main guitar and constant companion. And then, in a move he’d regret for decades, he sold it.

Bill joins The School Of Music In Seattle

Bill joins the UW Jazz Studies Program

Bill recently joined the UW community with his appointment as affiliate professor at the UW's School of Music Jazz Studies program. "This will give me the opportunity to make my roots here in town deeper", Frisell said. "And I feel like I can learn as much from the students as they can learn from me. Music is such an overwhelming thing. That's one of the first things that I tell students that there's not a point you reach where you're finished." - Click HERE to read the full article.
